This is one of the legends of bravery of Minamoto-no-Yorimasa who slayed Nue, a Monster whose head is monkey, body is raccoon dog, hands and feets are tiger and tail is snake (like a chimera of the Greek myths).
As Yorimasa was the best archer of the period, he was ordered to get rid of the Monster, Nue.
After he shot a bow and hit Nue, he and an attendant give it a finishing attack with swords.
