Taira no Masakado, an ambitious general in the mid Heian period (around 10th century), rebelled against the government and established an independent state in the year of 940. He called himself “Shin-noh”(New Emperor), but was attacked and killed by Taira no Sadamori and Fujiwara no Hidesato only two months after he ascended the throne.

His daughter Satsuki Hime (Princess Satsuki) decided to revenge her father’s murder and set out for Kifune shrine, Kyoto.

Kifune shrine has been known as a place to do Ushi no Koku Mairi (visiting a shrine for imprecation).

She visited the shrine at dead of night everyday for 21 days and finally was granted sorcery. She had changed into an ogress with full of grudge.

She changed her name to Takiyasha (taki  is a waterfall and yasha  is a female damon) and constructed a fort to raise a rebellion.

The government sent Oyake no Chujo Mitsukuni, an Onmyoji (master of Yin Yang) to suppress the rebel Takiyasha  who had been doing evil.

Mitsukuni was persecuted and distressed by Takiyasha’s sorcery, but after a struggle he exocised the ogress with the principles of Yin Yang.

Takiyasha reformed herself at last and passed away as Satsuki Hime.
