What Kitahiroshima-cho is like

Most remarkable attractions of Kitahirosima-cho are views of mountains, sky and water.

83% of the town is occupied by mountains and forests. You’d see gentle ridge lines and flourishing mountains from anywhere in the town.

As there’s no tall buildings, blue skies (the starry sky at night) spread widely above the mountains.

The view of mountains and the sky would soothe and comfort your mind.

Besides wide rivers, small streams for irrigation to conduct water into paddy fields run all over the town.

The sceneries with rivers and streams are peaceful and refreshing. And in early summer you’d be attracted by glassy surface of paddy fields. The reflexes of mountains and skies in the field are awfully beautiful!

Also calm sound of flowing water accompanied with chirps will soothe you.

There’s one more fascinating scenery I highly recommend.

Cottages with reddish brown tiles on the roof are peculiar to northern Hiroshima and Shimane. The characteristic tile is called “Seki-shu gawara” (Seki-shu is an old name for Shimane and gawara/kawara is roof tiles) and is known for its durableness which sustain chills and freezing of severe weather in winter. The pastoral scenery dotted with reddish tile-roofed cottages is tranquil and nostalgic.

We don’t have such an exciting spot for sightseeing, but peaceful atmosphere of the country with rich nature will grab your heart to make you eager for coming back again.

Just have a try and see if it’s true!
